Product Description:
Dzi beads are ancient beads from Tibet, much like etched carnelian beads. They are made by baking natural dyes onto agate to create intricate patterns. These beads are believed to have been crafted between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. Despite this, many aspects of the dyes and techniques used remain a mystery. While primarily found in Tibet, Dzi beads have also been discovered in Bhutan and regions of the Himalayas such as Ladakh. The various patterns baked onto these beads are thought to hold different meanings, with the round "eye" motifs being particularly prized for their condition and rarity.
In Tibetan culture, Dzi beads are considered talismans of wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and cherished as valuable adornments. Recently, they have also gained popularity in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu" (Heavenly Beads). Many replicas made using similar methods are now available, but genuine ancient Dzi beads remain highly sought after and rare.
Among Dzi beads, those with striped patterns rather than "eye" motifs are known as Chon Dzi or "Line Beads."
