Gustave Eugene Villaume (1899-1983) completed his first violin in 1911 and won silver medals in competition in Mirecourt in 1911, 1912, and 1913. He apprenticed with Leon Mougenot and Rene Jacquet Gand before working for Caressa & Francais in Paris and Fernand Jacquot in Nancy. Gustave remained in Nancy but established independently in 1924. He was joined by his brothers, Jean & Rene from 1929-1935. Jean thereafter worked for Marc Laberte. This violin was made by Jean & Rene Villaume between 1929 and 1935, the period in which they assisted Gustav in his workshop.
The materials are attractive and well chosen, highlighted by the meticulous craftsmanship and a varnish that expounds as much richness in shading as it does translucence. The aesthetics are only further complimented by its voice, offering an effortless lyricism in balance with color, clarity, and projection.
