Rather scarce work aimed largely at the Baptists, arguing first that child baptism is a sign of our continuity with Israel as the fulfillment of the O.T. Covenant, and, more importantly, then an extensive interaction with Thomas Baldwin's classic articulation of Baptist theology. He refutes Baldwins, Vindication of the Baptists, Mode of Baptism, the Testimonies of the Fathers, Covenantalism, etc., with a rather sharp section on "The Pretensions of the Baptists." 

Thomas Baldwin [b.1753] was arguably the most important American Baptist theologian of the 18th century.

Signed twice by by Charles P. Lord, 8th Maine Volunteers during the Civil War, previously of Lowell, Massachusetts. He served from the outbreak of the War until December 1863 where he apparently entered the ministry at Vineland, N. J. and was later Mayor of the city. 

Original full leather, very solid and attractive; abrasions at extremities, but quite good. The whole toned with some tide marks throughout.
