Very attractive Scottish tree calf edition of Willison's  [1680-1750] classic on the Sabbath. He was of the Evangelical branch of the Church of Scotland and was chiefly responsible for attempting to heal the breach between the Erskines and the Scottish Church. He was successful for a time, but only under the condition that he could secure a provision of no further patronage for ministers. He failed, and the church ultimately split. 

His Afflicted Mans' Companion and Treatise Concerning Sanctification of the Lord's Day are both important and influential pieces of historic Scottish devotion, being reprinted and circulated extensively for over 100 years.

Very attractive tree calf, just some light deterioration at middle left edge of spine and at foredges and corners. Very solid and clean. A really lovely copy and even better with just a touch of TLC.
