Planetary observing rewards magnification and steady tracking — Jupiter's cloud bands, Saturn's Cassini division, and lunar craters need both power and a mount that holds the target still at 200x+. This FirstLight package puts a 127mm f/15 Maksutov-Cassegrain on the EXOS Nano EQ3 German equatorial mount, combining serious aperture and the high-contrast optical design that Mak-Cass scopes are known for with motorized tracking that keeps planets centered during high-magnification sessions.
The 127mm Mak-Cass delivers 1900mm of focal length in a compact sealed tube. The f/15 focal ratio produces the highest inherent contrast of any FirstLight telescope — critical for resolving fine detail on Jupiter's cloud bands, Saturn's Cassini Division, and the delicate rille patterns on the lunar surface. Fully multi-coated optics and the sealed meniscus corrector keep images bright and flare-free with zero maintenance.
The EXOS Nano EQ3 mount transforms the observing experience at these magnifications. The dual slow-motion cables provide smooth, precise single-axis tracking once polar-aligned, keeping planets pinned in the eyepiece far longer than any alt-az mount. The 2.5 lb counterweight balances the 7.6 lb tube, and the stainless steel tripod adjusts from 25.5" to 45".
