Original drawing of a hermit crab.
To protect their soft and delicate abdomen, hermit crabs use discarded snail shells for protection. When their shell becomes too small, they will go and search for a bigger shell. They inspect the shells by holding them up and turning them over before leaving the safety of their current home. Sometimes the chosen shell just isn't right so they move back to their original shell and start the search again.
This is an original drawing created with watercolour and coloured pencils on 300gsm cold-pressed watercolour paper. Drawn in 2022.
