These unique fair-trade ornaments represents the common loon - a bird renowned for its deep dives to catch fish in large lakes in North America and its haunting calls. It is most often seen in large northern lakes in the summer months, but many birds will migrate to areas just offshore of the southern coast in the winter.
Its colors are not complex, but its intricate checkerboard patterns of black and white on birds during their breeding season made it one of the most challenging and time-consuming bird ornaments our artisan partners from the Peruvian Amazon have made so far with chambira palm fiber.
Each ornament comes with a tag listing the name and home of the artisan who made it and the plants used to make it.
Please remember that each ornament was hand-made so the exact design of the craft may vary from the photo shown for this model. This bird is a new addition to our collection of North American birds so supplies of a deluxe large and complex medium-sized versions are limited during this introductory period.
