The name Ararat comes from Mount Ararat which is a is a snow-capped and dormant compound volcano in the eastern extremity of Turkey, it is associated with the "mountains of Ararat" in Jewish and Christian traditions. It is where Noah's Ark is said to have come to rest according to the Book of Genesis.
