Verdi (1813-1901)
Description:
Francesco Foscari, the Governor of Venice, must bring his son Jacopo Foscari to justice for a crime he did not commit through the intrigues of his political enemy Rodedano. Lucrezia, Jacopo's wife, desperately pleads for her husband's pardon, but... Based on Byron's play about the real-life early 15th century Venetian governor Francesco Foscari and his son, the opera "The Two Foscari," written by Verdi from a libretto by Piave, is a masterpiece that demands a high level of expressiveness and vocal technique from its principal roles. This video was recorded at the "Verdi Festival 2019" at the Royal Opera House of Parma. Master singer Vladimir Stoyanov (father Foscari) and rising star tenor Stefan Popp (child Foscari), who is gaining attention on the world opera scene, are the core of the cast, with Giacomo Prestia (political rival Loredano) and Maria Katsalava (Lucrezia) singing with realism. The characters' orthodox costumes look beautiful on the simple stage with blue lighting, and Paolo Arrivabeni, a master of Italian opera, spins the young Verdi's passionate music beautifully.
